The last week from June 3rd to June 6th was dedicated to coming together and exchanging in Nice, France during the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC). The OOSC, a special event of the third United Nations Ocean Conference, serves as a gathering of scientists around the world for enhancing interactions between different stakeholder – like science, society and policy.

SOOP is looking back on an exiting week with presentations and interesting conversations highlighting the vital importance of protecting our oceans. At the beginning of the week, Katharina Sophie Petersen from the team had the opportunity to give an insight on how Ships of Opportunity can be utilized for an enhanced ocean observation in the Global South. Jessica Gier followed up with a presentation on the SOOP innovation platform showing how important it is to build the bridge between ocean observation, data collection and data users.

The week at OOSC showed us again the great relevance of networking on how to sustain and expand ocean observations and provide ocean data for various stakeholders. These kind of events help to strengthening international connections and expand collaborations.

More events with SOOP and other stakeholders are planned for the United Nations Ocean Conference currently taking place also in Nice.
