The PAMOS (Portable Atmospheric Measurement Box on Sea) is a versatile measuring instrument for monitoring atmospheric conditions on board ships. It measures trace gases such as CO2, CH4, SO2, NO2, and CO, as well as aerosols, including black carbon. Meteorological parameters like temperature, air pressure, humidity, wind speed and direction, and precipitation are also recorded.

Technical Requirements:

  • Installation: Ideally installed in untainted air areas, e.g., near the bow, to avoid contamination.
  • Power Supply: 230 V AC; battery operation is not possible.
  • Size: Triangular shape, height of 97 cm, base area of 52 x 52 cm.
  • Water Resistance: Weather-resistant but not fully waterproof.

Maintenance Requirements:
Sensors require annual calibration by the manufacturer; no onboard maintenance is necessary.

Data Processing:
Collected data is transmitted daily, stored in the AWI STA database, and archived on the PANGAEA platform after quality assurance.
