On November 21, 2024, scientists, project partners and reviewers met at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel for the status seminar of the Helmholtz innovation platforms SOOP – Shaping an Ocean of Possibilities, Hi-Acts and Solar TAP.
The aim of the event was to present the progress made to date by the three innovation platforms, obtain feedback from experts on the respective core areas and develop new perspectives for the future.
Focus on innovations
One highlight of the seminar was the presentation of the latest technological developments. Particularly noteworthy was the SOOP OSBK, which is a prototype for plug-and-play sensor solutions that enables the flexible and efficient collection of ocean data. This innovation is an important milestone on the way to improved global ocean monitoring.
A day full of insights and exchange
The participants not only experienced exciting presentations, but also intensive exchange in discussion rounds and as part of an accompanying exhibition. Experts and visitors to the status seminar had the opportunity to learn about the latest developments in measurement technologies from the experts in attendance.
Outlook for the next steps
The status seminar not only served to shed light on the current project status, but also to plan future measures. The next steps for SOOP include
- Realization of further use cases: implementation of practical applications that demonstrate the potential of the SOOP innovation platform.
- Further technological development: Intensifying collaboration with sensor manufacturers to develop more innovative (e.g., more efficient and flexible) sensor solutions and maximize the benefits of the collected data.
- Deepening cooperation: Close cooperation with sensor manufacturers and end users to optimize data accessibility and benefits.
A big thank you to everyone involved
The entire SOOP team would like to thank everyone who made the status seminar a success. The constructive feedback from the reviewers and the enthusiasm of the participants give us a boost for the challenges ahead. We are particularly pleased about our strong and constantly growing partner network.
Together we are shaping an ocean of opportunities.
